Narrative:
We took [off]; just after rotation at about 1;000 ft; the captain and I smelled an odor. We were then alerted by the flight attendants of an odor that to them smelled like burning plastic. We leveled off at 2;000 ft; advised ATC and declared an emergency. Diverted to [nearby suitable airport]. Taxied to the gate without incident; no one reported any adverse affect from the flight.
