Narrative:
At the time of this occurrence I had 8 aircraft on the frequency. In my opinion I was busy. In my attempt to vector air carrier X around a slower moving aircraft on the same airway, I got him too close to another aircraft on another airway. I tried to effect altitude separation but it was too late. The closest they came was 2.1 mi and 800'. This is the first error I have had in 20 yrs as a controller at ZDC. I'm not sure what caused this but I suppose I could have exercised more awareness.
