Narrative:
At uncontrolled airport small aircraft X first officer announced taxi intentions on CTAF. No other broadcast heard. While taxiing out changed to center frequency to obtain IFR clearance, for one minute. Then returned to CTAF and heard no broadcasts. Held at runway 27 entrance for about 2 minutes to complete taxi checklist. Total of 4 minutes from taxi out of ramp to taxi onto runway. First officer announced takeoff intentions on CTAF. No broadcast heard. I and first officer visually scanned area, including final, for traffic. None seen. First officer stated 'clear right'. Performed takeoff checklist while making left turn onto runway with rolling takeoff. Then heard on the radio something to the effect of: 'aircraft on runway 27...small aircraft Y on 1/4 mi final...look out your window...rhinelander traffic...I have to miss the landing...small aircraft Y entering left downwind'. Etc for an approximately 2 min continuous broadcast on CTAF. Continued the takeoff and made no turns until well above the traffic pattern altitude. We never did see the small aircraft Y before, during, nor after the takeoff. Contributing factors: small windows on the light transport X. Other aircraft claimed to be on 1/4 mi final when we taxied onto the runway, but we suspect he was probably on a high close north left base which would put him out of view of the first officer. Stationary at runway entrance on narrow taxiway with no view of base nor downwind.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: COMMUTER ACFT DEPARTING UNCONTROLLED ARPT CONFLICTS WITH LNDG LIGHT ACFT.
Narrative: AT UNCONTROLLED ARPT SMA X F/O ANNOUNCED TAXI INTENTIONS ON CTAF. NO OTHER BROADCAST HEARD. WHILE TAXIING OUT CHANGED TO CENTER FREQ TO OBTAIN IFR CLRNC, FOR ONE MINUTE. THEN RETURNED TO CTAF AND HEARD NO BROADCASTS. HELD AT RWY 27 ENTRANCE FOR ABOUT 2 MINUTES TO COMPLETE TAXI CHECKLIST. TOTAL OF 4 MINUTES FROM TAXI OUT OF RAMP TO TAXI ONTO RWY. F/O ANNOUNCED TKOF INTENTIONS ON CTAF. NO BROADCAST HEARD. I AND F/O VISUALLY SCANNED AREA, INCLUDING FINAL, FOR TFC. NONE SEEN. F/O STATED 'CLEAR RIGHT'. PERFORMED TKOF CHECKLIST WHILE MAKING LEFT TURN ONTO RWY WITH ROLLING TKOF. THEN HEARD ON THE RADIO SOMETHING TO THE EFFECT OF: 'ACFT ON RWY 27...SMA Y ON 1/4 MI FINAL...LOOK OUT YOUR WINDOW...RHINELANDER TFC...I HAVE TO MISS THE LNDG...SMA Y ENTERING LEFT DOWNWIND'. ETC FOR AN APPROX 2 MIN CONTINUOUS BROADCAST ON CTAF. CONTINUED THE TKOF AND MADE NO TURNS UNTIL WELL ABOVE THE TFC PATTERN ALT. WE NEVER DID SEE THE SMA Y BEFORE, DURING, NOR AFTER THE TKOF. CONTRIBUTING FACTORS: SMALL WINDOWS ON THE LTT X. OTHER ACFT CLAIMED TO BE ON 1/4 MI FINAL WHEN WE TAXIED ONTO THE RWY, BUT WE SUSPECT HE WAS PROBABLY ON A HIGH CLOSE N LEFT BASE WHICH WOULD PUT HIM OUT OF VIEW OF THE F/O. STATIONARY AT RWY ENTRANCE ON NARROW TXWY WITH NO VIEW OF BASE NOR DOWNWIND.
