Narrative:
We were preparing for takeoff on 27 at esc when an mdt Y reported 10 mi out for runway 09. I called on unicom that we had him in sight and were rolling on 09. During climbout, I watched the mdt Y pass off our left wing. Msp center called out VFR traffic to the mdt Y and he said he saw us, and then added that we went into a cloud. The WX was VFR and at no time did we not maintain our proper cloud clrncs. The only theory I have is that an obscuration might have come between the 2 aircraft and he thought we went into the clouds. I had an IFR flight plan and we picked it up in the air and continued the flight. Next time (even if the WX is good VFR) I will wait the extra 5-10 mins on the ground until the inbound IFR flight cancels its flight plan.

Narrative: WE WERE PREPARING FOR TKOF ON 27 AT ESC WHEN AN MDT Y REPORTED 10 MI OUT FOR RWY 09. I CALLED ON UNICOM THAT WE HAD HIM IN SIGHT AND WERE ROLLING ON 09. DURING CLIMBOUT, I WATCHED THE MDT Y PASS OFF OUR LEFT WING. MSP CENTER CALLED OUT VFR TFC TO THE MDT Y AND HE SAID HE SAW US, AND THEN ADDED THAT WE WENT INTO A CLOUD. THE WX WAS VFR AND AT NO TIME DID WE NOT MAINTAIN OUR PROPER CLOUD CLRNCS. THE ONLY THEORY I HAVE IS THAT AN OBSCURATION MIGHT HAVE COME BETWEEN THE 2 ACFT AND HE THOUGHT WE WENT INTO THE CLOUDS. I HAD AN IFR FLT PLAN AND WE PICKED IT UP IN THE AIR AND CONTINUED THE FLT. NEXT TIME (EVEN IF THE WX IS GOOD VFR) I WILL WAIT THE EXTRA 5-10 MINS ON THE GND UNTIL THE INBND IFR FLT CANCELS ITS FLT PLAN.
