Narrative:
We were at cruise at 21,000 MSL, on a routine flight from grand rapids to cleveland. After passing lansing VOR, about 3 NM before chems intersection, controller questioned crew of filed route. We replied 'V103'. Controller replied he showed us filed V26. Requested further instructions. None were given. Continued on V103. Prior to this time, no advisory was given of any deviation from V26. No evasive actions were required. No abnormal instructions were issued. Visibility was approximately 50 mi. No traffic advisories were given. No other traffic was asked to deviate. Company flight plans have been inaccurate in the past and ATC has generally rerouted many flts to reflect a route not coinciding with company which has become standard and accepted over time with most pilots. Due to a lack of updated flight plan route information, confusion exists among pilots as to which routes to fly because of 'as filed' clrncs. Note: chems intersection is less than 4 SM from V26 verified by a center controller which still keeps us on V26.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: FLT CREW OF MDT AIR CARRIER OPERATIONS ALLEGEDLY ON WRONG AIRWAY PER CLRNC FILED WITH ATC.
Narrative: WE WERE AT CRUISE AT 21,000 MSL, ON A ROUTINE FLT FROM GRAND RAPIDS TO CLEVELAND. AFTER PASSING LANSING VOR, ABOUT 3 NM BEFORE CHEMS INTXN, CTLR QUESTIONED CREW OF FILED ROUTE. WE REPLIED 'V103'. CTLR REPLIED HE SHOWED US FILED V26. REQUESTED FURTHER INSTRUCTIONS. NONE WERE GIVEN. CONTINUED ON V103. PRIOR TO THIS TIME, NO ADVISORY WAS GIVEN OF ANY DEVIATION FROM V26. NO EVASIVE ACTIONS WERE REQUIRED. NO ABNORMAL INSTRUCTIONS WERE ISSUED. VISIBILITY WAS APPROX 50 MI. NO TFC ADVISORIES WERE GIVEN. NO OTHER TFC WAS ASKED TO DEVIATE. COMPANY FLT PLANS HAVE BEEN INACCURATE IN THE PAST AND ATC HAS GENERALLY REROUTED MANY FLTS TO REFLECT A ROUTE NOT COINCIDING WITH COMPANY WHICH HAS BECOME STANDARD AND ACCEPTED OVER TIME WITH MOST PLTS. DUE TO A LACK OF UPDATED FLT PLAN ROUTE INFO, CONFUSION EXISTS AMONG PLTS AS TO WHICH ROUTES TO FLY BECAUSE OF 'AS FILED' CLRNCS. NOTE: CHEMS INTXN IS LESS THAN 4 SM FROM V26 VERIFIED BY A CENTER CTLR WHICH STILL KEEPS US ON V26.
