[We] encountered possible wake turbulence enroute to stp. Flight was in smooth air; then encountered 2 to 3 sec of moderate turbulence. Autopilot stayed engaged through the event. All on board were seated with belts fastened. Notified msp center that we encountered possible wake turbulence and they pointed out an emb-170 in front approximately 8 miles that had climbed through our altitude. Aircraft was never in sight and no contrails were forming.
