Narrative:
The incident occurred during takeoff with the pilot flying from the right seat. After pushing throttle forward on roll engine missed and then ran smooth. About every one second thereafter engine began to cough and miss regularly. I (the passenger) remarked to the pilot to abort the takeoff twice but apparently was not heard by the pilot. (Aircraft is very loud and hard to her in.) pilot continued takeoff and became airborne. I decided to take controls and land straight ahead to prevent an off airport landing later. I cut the throttle and landed straight ahead but the touchdown was very hard due to lack of airspeed. Aircraft slid to a stop about 6 feet off left side of runway (sod strip). No injuries to persons north board. Aircraft damage was broken left landing gear leg, bent tail spring, slight dent in left wingtip, and further cracked an already cracked windshield. Incident could have been avoided by aborting takeoff sooner. Pilot doing the flying should have realized at the first sign of engine misfire that no takeoff should be made. Second pilot had to take control and try to land on remaining runway to prevent a possible off airport landing. 300' of runway remained where aircraft came to a stop.

Title: ACFT ABORTED TKOF JUST AFTER LIFTOFF. ACFT RECEIVED MINOR DAMAGE NO INJURIES.
Narrative: THE INCIDENT OCCURRED DURING TKOF WITH THE PLT FLYING FROM THE RIGHT SEAT. AFTER PUSHING THROTTLE FORWARD ON ROLL ENGINE MISSED AND THEN RAN SMOOTH. ABOUT EVERY ONE SECOND THEREAFTER ENGINE BEGAN TO COUGH AND MISS REGULARLY. I (THE PAX) REMARKED TO THE PLT TO ABORT THE TKOF TWICE BUT APPARENTLY WAS NOT HEARD BY THE PLT. (ACFT IS VERY LOUD AND HARD TO HER IN.) PLT CONTINUED TKOF AND BECAME AIRBORNE. I DECIDED TO TAKE CONTROLS AND LAND STRAIGHT AHEAD TO PREVENT AN OFF ARPT LNDG LATER. I CUT THE THROTTLE AND LANDED STRAIGHT AHEAD BUT THE TOUCHDOWN WAS VERY HARD DUE TO LACK OF AIRSPEED. ACFT SLID TO A STOP ABOUT 6 FEET OFF LEFT SIDE OF RWY (SOD STRIP). NO INJURIES TO PERSONS N BOARD. ACFT DAMAGE WAS BROKEN LEFT LNDG GEAR LEG, BENT TAIL SPRING, SLIGHT DENT IN LEFT WINGTIP, AND FURTHER CRACKED AN ALREADY CRACKED WINDSHIELD. INCIDENT COULD HAVE BEEN AVOIDED BY ABORTING TKOF SOONER. PLT DOING THE FLYING SHOULD HAVE REALIZED AT THE FIRST SIGN OF ENGINE MISFIRE THAT NO TKOF SHOULD BE MADE. SECOND PLT HAD TO TAKE CONTROL AND TRY TO LAND ON REMAINING RWY TO PREVENT A POSSIBLE OFF ARPT LNDG. 300' OF RWY REMAINED WHERE ACFT CAME TO A STOP.
