Narrative:
Upon landing; student pitched down excessively and corrected excessively which resulted in ballooning. As student was flaring; I noticed an excessive rate of sink very close to the runway. I corrected with pitch and power which resulted in a hard landing immediately. The aircraft landed three points on all wheels and I then taxied back to the ramp without further incident. Earlier corrective action would have been a go-around at the first sign of a bad approach and or earlier transfer of controls to the instructor.
