Narrative:

This incident occurred at peachtree-dekalb airport jun/sat/89. The aircraft involved were an small aircraft (myself), an small transport X and, indirectly, an small transport Y. The airport was very busy due to an air show. The airport was going to close from XA00 to XC00 for aerial demonstrations. Several planes were trying to get out and several planes were trying to get in before the deadline. I received takeoff clearance from the tower to depart on runway 2R at approximately XB56. The tower was also directing the small transport X in on runway 20L at approximately the same time. After the incident, I spoke with tower personnel, and they told me that they had issued a traffic advisory to me with the takeoff clearance. I requested and received the tower tape from this time period, and it shows that the flight crew advisory was issued to the small transport Y which departed approximately 90 seconds after me. Approximately 2 minutes, 15 seconds after I took off, the tower called for me to turn right, immediately so as to avoid the small transport X. As I turned, I saw the small transport X landing lights. He was at approximately my 11:30 position and slightly above my altitude. As I turned, I noticed that he also turned to avoid me. My altimeter was reading between 1800 and 1900' MSL. According to the tower, both mine and the small transport X readouts were 2600' MSL. I later had the altimeter vs transponder readouts checked on the plane I was flying, and it was reported that they were within 100' of each other. I also do recall setting my altimeter to the field elevation before takeoff. I can offer no explanation for the 'temporary' discrepancy between the two readings. There was a sign at the end of the taxiway which directed departing traffic to climb to 2000' MSL before initiating any turns, for noise abatement purposes. Tower personnel told me that they were wondering when I was going to turn, because to them, I had already exceeded the 200', but I was reading 1900'. The traffic advisory was issued to the small transport Y that departed 90 seconds after me. When I called the tower the day of the incident, they told me that they had issued me the traffic advisory for the small transport X along with my takeoff clearance. After listening to the tower tape, I have found that they were mistaken. The tower, I'm sure, was trying to get the small transport X in under the deadline, and that's why they landed him in that direction. I would have to speculate that they just lost track of who was who when they issued the small transport X the traffic advisory.

Title: CLOSE PROX GA-SMA GA-SMT LNDG-TKOF OPPOSITE DIRECTION FROM RWY 02-20.

Narrative: THIS INCIDENT OCCURRED AT PEACHTREE-DEKALB ARPT JUN/SAT/89. THE ACFT INVOLVED WERE AN SMA (MYSELF), AN SMT X AND, INDIRECTLY, AN SMT Y. THE ARPT WAS VERY BUSY DUE TO AN AIR SHOW. THE ARPT WAS GOING TO CLOSE FROM XA00 TO XC00 FOR AERIAL DEMONSTRATIONS. SEVERAL PLANES WERE TRYING TO GET OUT AND SEVERAL PLANES WERE TRYING TO GET IN BEFORE THE DEADLINE. I RECEIVED TKOF CLRNC FROM THE TWR TO DEPART ON RWY 2R AT APPROX XB56. THE TWR WAS ALSO DIRECTING THE SMT X IN ON RWY 20L AT APPROX THE SAME TIME. AFTER THE INCIDENT, I SPOKE WITH TWR PERSONNEL, AND THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD ISSUED A TFC ADVISORY TO ME WITH THE TKOF CLRNC. I REQUESTED AND RECEIVED THE TWR TAPE FROM THIS TIME PERIOD, AND IT SHOWS THAT THE FLT CREW ADVISORY WAS ISSUED TO THE SMT Y WHICH DEPARTED APPROX 90 SECONDS AFTER ME. APPROX 2 MINUTES, 15 SECONDS AFTER I TOOK OFF, THE TWR CALLED FOR ME TO TURN RIGHT, IMMEDIATELY SO AS TO AVOID THE SMT X. AS I TURNED, I SAW THE SMT X LNDG LIGHTS. HE WAS AT APPROX MY 11:30 POSITION AND SLIGHTLY ABOVE MY ALT. AS I TURNED, I NOTICED THAT HE ALSO TURNED TO AVOID ME. MY ALTIMETER WAS READING BETWEEN 1800 AND 1900' MSL. ACCORDING TO THE TWR, BOTH MINE AND THE SMT X READOUTS WERE 2600' MSL. I LATER HAD THE ALTIMETER VS TRANSPONDER READOUTS CHECKED ON THE PLANE I WAS FLYING, AND IT WAS REPORTED THAT THEY WERE WITHIN 100' OF EACH OTHER. I ALSO DO RECALL SETTING MY ALTIMETER TO THE FIELD ELEVATION BEFORE TKOF. I CAN OFFER NO EXPLANATION FOR THE 'TEMPORARY' DISCREPANCY BETWEEN THE TWO READINGS. THERE WAS A SIGN AT THE END OF THE TXWY WHICH DIRECTED DEPARTING TFC TO CLIMB TO 2000' MSL BEFORE INITIATING ANY TURNS, FOR NOISE ABATEMENT PURPOSES. TWR PERSONNEL TOLD ME THAT THEY WERE WONDERING WHEN I WAS GOING TO TURN, BECAUSE TO THEM, I HAD ALREADY EXCEEDED THE 200', BUT I WAS READING 1900'. THE TFC ADVISORY WAS ISSUED TO THE SMT Y THAT DEPARTED 90 SECONDS AFTER ME. WHEN I CALLED THE TWR THE DAY OF THE INCIDENT, THEY TOLD ME THAT THEY HAD ISSUED ME THE TFC ADVISORY FOR THE SMT X ALONG WITH MY TKOF CLRNC. AFTER LISTENING TO THE TWR TAPE, I HAVE FOUND THAT THEY WERE MISTAKEN. THE TWR, I'M SURE, WAS TRYING TO GET THE SMT X IN UNDER THE DEADLINE, AND THAT'S WHY THEY LANDED HIM IN THAT DIRECTION. I WOULD HAVE TO SPECULATE THAT THEY JUST LOST TRACK OF WHO WAS WHO WHEN THEY ISSUED THE SMT X THE TFC ADVISORY.
