Narrative:
I hold an LOA in an MTR with endorsement privileges. A person came and wanted to buy our aircraft from us and wanted an endorsement. We had gotten an experimental airworthiness certificate applied to it after getting the aircraft out of davis monthan AFB. The first one is good for 1 yr. We got another (FAA) office to reissue a permanent certificate. It was done, but to our surprise (2 yrs later), that it also was written for only 1 yr and I flew the aircraft thinking it was our permanent certificate of airworthiness. I think short term airworthiness certificates should be of a different color!
