Narrative:

On downwind for runway 35R at dfw at approximately 8300' we spotted air carrier Y slightly above and to our right and ahead about 1 mi. The controller then vectored air carrier Y on a left descending turn across our flight path. No advisory was ever given to us of traffic and not until after we mentioned to the controller that we were concerned about our separation did he give us a 10 degree right turn. We lost sight of traffic ahead behind a cloud. Less than standard separation.
