Narrative:

I filed flight plan from sus to fcm. Told to climb to 3000 on a 310 heading on approach control. Then turn left to 270 degree (on course was 330 degree). When I was 10 DME west of stl VOR was told to fly to the VOR (90 degree) then fly on the 348 degree radial to the 35 DME fix. I felt that this was needless vectoring since it was in the morning. I cancelled IFR since the whole route was clear. After climb to altitude I reviewed my location on TCA VFR chart. I may have climbed through a corridor in the TCA after cancelling IFR. I should have looked at the chart before climbing. St louis is terrible about needless vectoring. I think they are inflexible in their routing.

Title: PLT OF SMT IMPATIENT WITH VECTORS BY STL DEP CTLR CANCELLED IFR, CLIMBED, PENETRATED TCA.

Narrative: I FILED FLT PLAN FROM SUS TO FCM. TOLD TO CLIMB TO 3000 ON A 310 HDG ON APCH CTL. THEN TURN LEFT TO 270 DEG (ON COURSE WAS 330 DEG). WHEN I WAS 10 DME W OF STL VOR WAS TOLD TO FLY TO THE VOR (90 DEG) THEN FLY ON THE 348 DEG RADIAL TO THE 35 DME FIX. I FELT THAT THIS WAS NEEDLESS VECTORING SINCE IT WAS IN THE MORNING. I CANCELLED IFR SINCE THE WHOLE ROUTE WAS CLEAR. AFTER CLIMB TO ALT I REVIEWED MY LOCATION ON TCA VFR CHART.
