Narrative:
I landed on runway 7 at santa barbara, ca and was advised right turnoff on taxiway B. While rolling on runway 7, I saw a small taxiway B sign and turned right. Ground said turn left on taxiway a to clear our active runway 15L, then right on taxiway B and say your tail number. A saw no marker identifying runway 15. The only sign I saw was the taxiway B sign. The single sign was between runway 15L and taxiway B. I feel quite sure there was no sign on the right side of runway 7 identifying runway 15L! Taxiway looked like a narrow ground traffic road rather than a taxiway. If sba had a taxiway B sign on both sides of their taxiway, more aircraft might turn off in the proper place. From the sound of the ground controller's voice, I think this must happen quite often. Taxiing out on departure, their signs are excellent, but not visible from runway 7.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: PLT OF SMT ON LNDG AT SBA CLEARED TURN ON TXWY B, TURNED DOWN RWY 15L.
Narrative: I LANDED ON RWY 7 AT SANTA BARBARA, CA AND WAS ADVISED RIGHT TURNOFF ON TXWY B. WHILE ROLLING ON RWY 7, I SAW A SMALL TXWY B SIGN AND TURNED RIGHT. GND SAID TURN LEFT ON TXWY A TO CLEAR OUR ACTIVE RWY 15L, THEN RIGHT ON TXWY B AND SAY YOUR TAIL NUMBER. A SAW NO MARKER IDENTIFYING RWY 15. THE ONLY SIGN I SAW WAS THE TXWY B SIGN. THE SINGLE SIGN WAS BETWEEN RWY 15L AND TXWY B. I FEEL QUITE SURE THERE WAS NO SIGN ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF RWY 7 IDENTIFYING RWY 15L! TXWY LOOKED LIKE A NARROW GND TFC ROAD RATHER THAN A TXWY. IF SBA HAD A TXWY B SIGN ON BOTH SIDES OF THEIR TXWY, MORE ACFT MIGHT TURN OFF IN THE PROPER PLACE. FROM THE SOUND OF THE GND CTLR'S VOICE, I THINK THIS MUST HAPPEN QUITE OFTEN. TAXIING OUT ON DEP, THEIR SIGNS ARE EXCELLENT, BUT NOT VISIBLE FROM RWY 7.
