Narrative:
Aircraft from navy whidbey are performing practice apches at yakima air terminal after XA00 local when the tower is closed. CTAF frequency is 118.4. This is a hazardous situation due to the non availability of VHF transceiver in the navy aircraft. A possible disaster could be avoided by disallowing military practice apches at uncontrolled fields. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: the navy training seems to be only occasional, not a regular operation. There have been instances of local traffic entering the traffic pattern with the apches being made by the navy pilots with no communication with the landing traffic.
