Narrative:
I was approaching eag from the northeast and was about to enter the traffic pattern when I noticed that there were trucks near the threshold of runway 13. As I continued along the downwind leg I called eag unicom and CTAF to inquire as to the status of runway 13. As I received no response to my transmission, and as I was concerned that the vehicles could become a hazard if they were to move onto the runway, I aborted my approach for runway 13, and instead I entered a traffic pattern and landed on runway 01. After I landed I learned that stripes were being painted on runway 13/31, and that there was an 'X' on the threshold of runway 31 only.
