Narrative:
I own and fly a polished aluminum light transport. I can only take necessary crew for the aircraft. During this trip I was bringing along my girl friend who watches the plane while I'm away from it and my daughter whom the aircraft is named after. She was asked to be there for a photo session. Both people were small and seated side by side and belted with IAP belt and shoulder harness along with ear protection. My letter of authorization allows a 350 NM proficiency flight radius. Ashtabula was only 170 NM away from my home base. The FAA says I'm in violation. During the last polishing of my airplane my employee polished off a portion of my north number which should read XXXX. I didn't notice he put my number back on as XXXY. The number is now back to normal. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter states the aircraft is licensed in the experimental exhibition category and FAA is contesting the carriage of passenger for this purpose. Also at issue is the discrepancy in the registration number and the fact a low pass was made upon arrival at the air show airport. An investigation notice has been received.
