Narrative:
I departed vrb at XX15 local obtaining AFSS WX brief. Upon reaching jax, clouds began increasing. I obtained a WX update from mcn AFSS while 10 mi northwest of jac and found a line of thunderstorms to be developing between ays and albany, GA. Flight conditions were mostly VFR on top. Upon entering clouds, the aircraft became difficult to control. Severe updrafts and downdrafts were encountered. I deviated from altitude by plus or minus 700'. The aircraft was put into several 60 degree banks, my main concern was flying the aircraft. I deviated from course probably 5-7 mi. I slowed the aircraft to maneuvering speed to facilitate better control of the aircraft. ZJX provided vectors north which kept me out of extreme WX. I encountered light to moderate rain and moderate to heavy turbulence in the clouds. In retrospect, I should have asked for en route WX prior to jax. I could have asked for an amended route by passing the WX area by a wide margin. Entire episode probably did not exceed 15-20 minutes.

Title: PLT OF SMA TWIN PENETRATED TURBULENT WX.
Narrative: I DEPARTED VRB AT XX15 LOCAL OBTAINING AFSS WX BRIEF. UPON REACHING JAX, CLOUDS BEGAN INCREASING. I OBTAINED A WX UPDATE FROM MCN AFSS WHILE 10 MI NW OF JAC AND FOUND A LINE OF TSTMS TO BE DEVELOPING BETWEEN AYS AND ALBANY, GA. FLT CONDITIONS WERE MOSTLY VFR ON TOP. UPON ENTERING CLOUDS, THE ACFT BECAME DIFFICULT TO CONTROL. SEVERE UPDRAFTS AND DOWNDRAFTS WERE ENCOUNTERED. I DEVIATED FROM ALT BY PLUS OR MINUS 700'. THE ACFT WAS PUT INTO SEVERAL 60 DEG BANKS, MY MAIN CONCERN WAS FLYING THE ACFT. I DEVIATED FROM COURSE PROBABLY 5-7 MI. I SLOWED THE ACFT TO MANEUVERING SPEED TO FACILITATE BETTER CONTROL OF THE ACFT. ZJX PROVIDED VECTORS NORTH WHICH KEPT ME OUT OF EXTREME WX. I ENCOUNTERED LIGHT TO MODERATE RAIN AND MODERATE TO HEAVY TURBULENCE IN THE CLOUDS. IN RETROSPECT, I SHOULD HAVE ASKED FOR ENRTE WX PRIOR TO JAX. I COULD HAVE ASKED FOR AN AMENDED ROUTE BY PASSING THE WX AREA BY A WIDE MARGIN. ENTIRE EPISODE PROBABLY DID NOT EXCEED 15-20 MINUTES.
