Narrative:
Flight stl pit FL290 controller handed us off to another ZOB frequency. New controller asked us to confirm our altitude we told him we were FL290 assigned. He told us he showed us assigned FL240 then gave us FL240 we made a normal descent to FL240. I know of no conflict of traffic. Suspect controller (in training) handed us off at FL240 west/O telling us, or someone else answered for us. We never acknowledged the descent.

Narrative: FLT STL PIT FL290 CTLR HANDED US OFF TO ANOTHER ZOB FREQ. NEW CTLR ASKED US TO CONFIRM OUR ALT WE TOLD HIM WE WERE FL290 ASSIGNED. HE TOLD US HE SHOWED US ASSIGNED FL240 THEN GAVE US FL240 WE MADE A NORMAL DSCNT TO FL240. I KNOW OF NO CONFLICT OF TFC. SUSPECT CTLR (IN TRNING) HANDED US OFF AT FL240 W/O TELLING US, OR SOMEONE ELSE ANSWERED FOR US. WE NEVER ACKNOWLEDGED THE DSCNT.
