Narrative:

I had departed anc with 1 passenger and cargo, VFR, destination svw. This runway is 4100 times 105, with a 5% uphill grade, 1 way landing on 34 and 1 way departing 16. A mountain is at the departure end of 34. Approach plates advise successful go around improbable. Prior to anc departure WX briefing gave winds at 6 KTS and high ceiling. 5 mins out svw radio advised wind had picked up suddenly to 160 at 12, gusting 20. This unfortunately is a typical wind direction and speed for this airport and I have landed in those tailwind conditions frequently. On short final I now committed to land with unsuccessful go around probability. Svw radio advised: 'wind variable 090-220 at 20 KTS.' I was committed to land. All was well, I was centerline, proper speed, beginning landing flare when the 20 KT tailwind suddenly shifted to 90 degrees off my right wing at 20 KTS. It lifted the right wing, and as I righted the aircraft and added power, the gear hit the runway quite hard. I bounced, climbed slightly, was now in severe turbulence and off near the left runway edge. I crabbed. Found my way back to near center, regained control and relanded and taxied to the parking area. On inspection of the aircraft, I discovered the left propeller was bent and there was no other damage. Apparently the combination of wind shear gust and turbulence had forced my left wing low enough to strike the propeller. Fortunately, I recovered quickly enough to rescue the rest of the airplane.

Title: HARD LNDG RESULTED IN PROPELLER DAMAGE. WIND SHEAR.

Narrative: I HAD DEPARTED ANC WITH 1 PAX AND CARGO, VFR, DEST SVW. THIS RWY IS 4100 TIMES 105, WITH A 5% UPHILL GRADE, 1 WAY LNDG ON 34 AND 1 WAY DEPARTING 16. A MOUNTAIN IS AT THE DEP END OF 34. APCH PLATES ADVISE SUCCESSFUL GAR IMPROBABLE. PRIOR TO ANC DEP WX BRIEFING GAVE WINDS AT 6 KTS AND HIGH CEILING. 5 MINS OUT SVW RADIO ADVISED WIND HAD PICKED UP SUDDENLY TO 160 AT 12, GUSTING 20. THIS UNFORTUNATELY IS A TYPICAL WIND DIRECTION AND SPD FOR THIS ARPT AND I HAVE LANDED IN THOSE TAILWIND CONDITIONS FREQUENTLY. ON SHORT FINAL I NOW COMMITTED TO LAND WITH UNSUCCESSFUL GAR PROBABILITY. SVW RADIO ADVISED: 'WIND VARIABLE 090-220 AT 20 KTS.' I WAS COMMITTED TO LAND. ALL WAS WELL, I WAS CENTERLINE, PROPER SPD, BEGINNING LNDG FLARE WHEN THE 20 KT TAILWIND SUDDENLY SHIFTED TO 90 DEGS OFF MY RIGHT WING AT 20 KTS. IT LIFTED THE RIGHT WING, AND AS I RIGHTED THE ACFT AND ADDED PWR, THE GEAR HIT THE RWY QUITE HARD. I BOUNCED, CLBED SLIGHTLY, WAS NOW IN SEVERE TURB AND OFF NEAR THE LEFT RWY EDGE. I CRABBED. FOUND MY WAY BACK TO NEAR CENTER, REGAINED CTL AND RELANDED AND TAXIED TO THE PARKING AREA. ON INSPECTION OF THE ACFT, I DISCOVERED THE LEFT PROP WAS BENT AND THERE WAS NO OTHER DAMAGE. APPARENTLY THE COMBINATION OF WIND SHEAR GUST AND TURB HAD FORCED MY LEFT WING LOW ENOUGH TO STRIKE THE PROP. FORTUNATELY, I RECOVERED QUICKLY ENOUGH TO RESCUE THE REST OF THE AIRPLANE.
