Narrative:

Were cleared for takeoff on runway 17. First officer was doing takeoff, and there was an initial distraction due to uneven spool up of engines and he made slight correction back to centerline as I adjusted throttles to takeoff (full/cfm 5603) power. As first officer refocused eyes down the runway, he called out 'truck on the runway'. I confirmed this as I looked up and saw a pick-up truck crossing the runway at a high rate of speed (estimated approximately 50 mph) from left to right. Distance from us was approximately 2500-3000'. The truck was on or in the vicinity of runway 4/22 (which has been under construction for some time). I immediately assumed control and rejected the takeoff as the truck continued on, off to the right of the runway and well clear. The first officer announced abort to tower and made PA to passenger cabin asking everyone to remain seated and calm. Follow-up checklists were accomplished after uneventfully clearing runway and taxiing back. Approximately abort speed was 95 KTS, temperature 80 degree F, approximately weight at brake application 110,800 pounds. Brake cooling chart called for 4 1/2-5 1/2 min. Airborne gear down cooling time. An uneventful takeoff was finally performed on runway 12R with a full 6 min gear down cooling time allowed during climbout as a precaution. Tower later informed us via telephone conversation that the construction crew's pickup truck had been unauthorized to cross runway 17 and driver was subsequently fired.

Title: FLT CREW SAW TRUCK CROSSING RWY DURING TKOF ROLL. ABORTED.

Narrative: WERE CLRED FOR TKOF ON RWY 17. F/O WAS DOING TKOF, AND THERE WAS AN INITIAL DISTR DUE TO UNEVEN SPOOL UP OF ENGINES AND HE MADE SLIGHT CORRECTION BACK TO CENTERLINE AS I ADJUSTED THROTTLES TO TKOF (FULL/CFM 5603) POWER. AS F/O REFOCUSED EYES DOWN THE RWY, HE CALLED OUT 'TRUCK ON THE RWY'. I CONFIRMED THIS AS I LOOKED UP AND SAW A PICK-UP TRUCK XING THE RWY AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED (ESTIMATED APPROX 50 MPH) FROM LEFT TO RIGHT. DISTANCE FROM US WAS APPROX 2500-3000'. THE TRUCK WAS ON OR IN THE VICINITY OF RWY 4/22 (WHICH HAS BEEN UNDER CONSTRUCTION FOR SOME TIME). I IMMEDIATELY ASSUMED CONTROL AND REJECTED THE TKOF AS THE TRUCK CONTINUED ON, OFF TO THE RIGHT OF THE RWY AND WELL CLEAR. THE F/O ANNOUNCED ABORT TO TWR AND MADE PA TO PAX CABIN ASKING EVERYONE TO REMAIN SEATED AND CALM. FOLLOW-UP CHECKLISTS WERE ACCOMPLISHED AFTER UNEVENTFULLY CLEARING RWY AND TAXIING BACK. APPROX ABORT SPEED WAS 95 KTS, TEMPERATURE 80 DEG F, APPROX WEIGHT AT BRAKE APPLICATION 110,800 LBS. BRAKE COOLING CHART CALLED FOR 4 1/2-5 1/2 MIN. AIRBORNE GEAR DOWN COOLING TIME. AN UNEVENTFUL TKOF WAS FINALLY PERFORMED ON RWY 12R WITH A FULL 6 MIN GEAR DOWN COOLING TIME ALLOWED DURING CLIMBOUT AS A PRECAUTION. TWR LATER INFORMED US VIA TELEPHONE CONVERSATION THAT THE CONSTRUCTION CREW'S PICKUP TRUCK HAD BEEN UNAUTHORIZED TO CROSS RWY 17 AND DRIVER WAS SUBSEQUENTLY FIRED.
