Narrative:
While approaching gate under direction of marshaller to area for tug hook up for tow-in; a ground vehicle sped very close across in front of aircraft; and appeared briefly to turn toward aircraft on a collision course. I immediately stopped the aircraft hard to avoid collision and turned on additional exterior lights. We had navigation; anti-collision; and logo lights on at the time. The vehicle corrected course slightly; sped up and away. The marshaller never gave us a stop signal; nor did the wing walker attempt to stop the vehicle as it entered the clear zone. I don't think they saw them. Don't know where they were looking. If we had not been taxiing slowly and applied brakes; turned on lights I believe we would have had a collision. It was very close. I remained stopped until after checking with cabin crew for possible injuries. There were none reported.
