Narrative:
While on training flight for CFI examination, was demonstrating and instructing steep spiral to an emergency landing (simulated). Airport is uncontrolled and used primarily for ag operations. After flying approach and starting flare, noticed men in middle of runway. Had not seen them till this point. Veered to left and landed on left side of centerline. Applied full power and proceeded to go around. Men were painting runway. Corrective action would be to be more vigilant. Secondly, workers were dressed in dark clothing. At minimum orange vest would have aided in seeing them.
