Narrative:
We were cleared to back-taxi for takeoff on runway 17 and to make our turnaround past intersection F. After passing what appeared to be F intersection, I commenced the turnaround and was informed by tower that that was not F, and due to asphalt problems in that area, we should have turned around beyond F. The trouble was that the mistaken taxiway was closed and the sign was covered.
