Narrative:

While taxiing to runway 34 at easterwood airport in the pre-dawn hours of september we misunderstood our clearance to 'taxi to runway 34. Traffic will be departing 16'. Events that led to incident: 1) as captain, I was unfamiliar with airport layout. 2) I failed to verify with the controller that we were cleared into position and hold before turning onto the runway.

Narrative: WHILE TAXIING TO RWY 34 AT EASTERWOOD ARPT IN THE PRE-DAWN HOURS OF SEPTEMBER WE MISUNDERSTOOD OUR CLRNC TO 'TAXI TO RWY 34. TFC WILL BE DEPARTING 16'. EVENTS THAT LED TO INCIDENT: 1) AS CAPT, I WAS UNFAMILIAR WITH ARPT LAYOUT. 2) I FAILED TO VERIFY WITH THE CTLR THAT WE WERE CLRED INTO POSITION AND HOLD BEFORE TURNING ONTO THE RWY.
