Narrative:
During flight ewr to rdu, deadheading crew member advised my crew of damage to trailing edge left wing outboard flap. Continued to destination without incident or degradation of flight performance. Advised after flight that damage was done prior to flight. I believe a ground vehicle ran into the flap. More vigilance by ground vehicle personnel and/or flight engineers during preflight would curb this problem's recurrence.
