Narrative:
I was instructed to take an aircraft to van nuys, ca, from burbank, ca, approximately 10 mi to the west. On my preflight of the aircraft I check the fuel and oil along with everything else. Both left and right main tires were showing wear. However, they were ok for flight. Fuel was 3 hours, oil was at 10 qts. Going around to the propeller and spinner I saw a dent in the spinner approximately the size of a golf ball. All of this was done by flashlight. Apparently I failed to see the 'nicks' in the propeller, which later were found by the mechanics. The previous pilot did not tell anyone about the propeller strike. I flew an unairworthy aircraft. The situation could have been avoided if the previous pilot had told someone, or there was better lighting condition where the aircraft are parked.

APPARENTLY I FAILED TO SEE THE 'NICKS' IN THE PROPELLER, WHICH LATER WERE FOUND BY THE MECHANICS. THE PREVIOUS PLT DID NOT TELL ANYONE ABOUT THE PROPELLER STRIKE. I FLEW AN UNAIRWORTHY ACFT.
