Narrative:
Landed on 13R at dfw, cleared at 15 onto taxiway alpha. Continued on alpha toward 18R. One aircraft was ahead of us, holding short of 18R. Tower cleared us both to cross 18R, traffic 1 mi out on final. First aircraft extremely slow to cross 18R. Due to the angle which taxiway alpha approachs 18R, I was unable to see the aircraft on final. Therefore, I asked the captain 3 separate times if we were going to cause a conflict with the aircraft on final. He said no each time. As we turned the corner, crossing the runway for the first time, I saw the aircraft about 50' AGL. Although there was sufficient runway available for the aircraft to land, we both would have been on the runway simultaneously. So the tower instructed the other aircraft to go around. Since I could not see the aircraft on final, I do not know what else I could have done differently to prevent this.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: RWY INCURSION WITH TWR PERMISSION CREATES A CONFLICT AND A GO AROUND.
Narrative: LANDED ON 13R AT DFW, CLRED AT 15 ONTO TXWY ALPHA. CONTINUED ON ALPHA TOWARD 18R. ONE ACFT WAS AHEAD OF US, HOLDING SHORT OF 18R. TWR CLRED US BOTH TO CROSS 18R, TFC 1 MI OUT ON FINAL. FIRST ACFT EXTREMELY SLOW TO CROSS 18R. DUE TO THE ANGLE WHICH TXWY ALPHA APCHS 18R, I WAS UNABLE TO SEE THE ACFT ON FINAL. THEREFORE, I ASKED THE CAPT 3 SEPARATE TIMES IF WE WERE GOING TO CAUSE A CONFLICT WITH THE ACFT ON FINAL. HE SAID NO EACH TIME. AS WE TURNED THE CORNER, XING THE RWY FOR THE FIRST TIME, I SAW THE ACFT ABOUT 50' AGL. ALTHOUGH THERE WAS SUFFICIENT RWY AVAILABLE FOR THE ACFT TO LAND, WE BOTH WOULD HAVE BEEN ON THE RWY SIMULTANEOUSLY. SO THE TWR INSTRUCTED THE OTHER ACFT TO GO AROUND. SINCE I COULD NOT SEE THE ACFT ON FINAL, I DO NOT KNOW WHAT ELSE I COULD HAVE DONE DIFFERENTLY TO PREVENT THIS.
