Narrative:
We had just turned right crosswind, remaining in the pattern. Gyr tower cleared us for touch and go. Turning downwind to base, another company aircraft was cleared for takeoff. We turned final, noting the other aircraft still on the runway, not yet rolling. We initiated a go around, telling tower of this action. No reply. We informed tower again of go around and we were instructed to follow traffic taking off. We had passed this traffic at altitude. We responded 'unable,' and that we had passed him and would make a right crosswind turn to re-enter the downwind. Tower responded with, 'who is in control of this pattern, you or me?' (angrily). The aircraft was had passed had now climbed up to our altitude. Had we not made a turn, collision may have occurred. We had lost sight of traffic. Gyr tower then instructed us to land. I asked why we were cleared to land when we requested touch and go. Tower responded with, 'cleared to land; call area supervisor when at phone.' other traffic was another company aircraft turning downwind to base when we turned right crosswind. On ground frequency, we asked who the area supervisor was. Ground response was, 'mr X, and he is the only one in the tower.' we responded with, 'if he's the only one in the tower, will he be able to talk to me and control air traffic at same time?' ground response was, 'we don't want to get into it like this on the radio.' I stated back, 'I didn't mean anything by it, I was just asking if he would be able to do both at the same time.' ground said to call the tower when near a phone. This situation arose because the controller took offense to a pilot, flying an airplane, taking his right by regulation to deviate from a controller's request. The controller was also short and snappy to any talk in a calm manner. Controller was trying, as he has in the past, to fly the aircraft for the pilot. The other company instrs and 6 students can and will attest to this situation.

Title: SMA EXECUTED A GO AROUND DUE TO TRAFFIC ON RWY. CTLR UPSET BECAUSE PLT TOLD HIM WHAT HE INTENDED TO DO. CTLR CLEARED PLT TO LAND INSTEAD OF TOUCH AND GO AS REQUESTED.
Narrative: WE HAD JUST TURNED RIGHT XWIND, REMAINING IN THE PATTERN. GYR TWR CLRED US FOR TOUCH AND GO. TURNING DOWNWIND TO BASE, ANOTHER COMPANY ACFT WAS CLRED FOR TKOF. WE TURNED FINAL, NOTING THE OTHER ACFT STILL ON THE RWY, NOT YET ROLLING. WE INITIATED A GAR, TELLING TWR OF THIS ACTION. NO REPLY. WE INFORMED TWR AGAIN OF GAR AND WE WERE INSTRUCTED TO FOLLOW TFC TAKING OFF. WE HAD PASSED THIS TFC AT ALT. WE RESPONDED 'UNABLE,' AND THAT WE HAD PASSED HIM AND WOULD MAKE A RIGHT XWIND TURN TO RE-ENTER THE DOWNWIND. TWR RESPONDED WITH, 'WHO IS IN CTL OF THIS PATTERN, YOU OR ME?' (ANGRILY). THE ACFT WAS HAD PASSED HAD NOW CLBED UP TO OUR ALT. HAD WE NOT MADE A TURN, COLLISION MAY HAVE OCCURRED. WE HAD LOST SIGHT OF TFC. GYR TWR THEN INSTRUCTED US TO LAND. I ASKED WHY WE WERE CLRED TO LAND WHEN WE REQUESTED TOUCH AND GO. TWR RESPONDED WITH, 'CLRED TO LAND; CALL AREA SUPVR WHEN AT PHONE.' OTHER TFC WAS ANOTHER COMPANY ACFT TURNING DOWNWIND TO BASE WHEN WE TURNED RIGHT XWIND. ON GND FREQ, WE ASKED WHO THE AREA SUPVR WAS. GND RESPONSE WAS, 'MR X, AND HE IS THE ONLY ONE IN THE TWR.' WE RESPONDED WITH, 'IF HE'S THE ONLY ONE IN THE TWR, WILL HE BE ABLE TO TALK TO ME AND CTL AIR TFC AT SAME TIME?' GND RESPONSE WAS, 'WE DON'T WANT TO GET INTO IT LIKE THIS ON THE RADIO.' I STATED BACK, 'I DIDN'T MEAN ANYTHING BY IT, I WAS JUST ASKING IF HE WOULD BE ABLE TO DO BOTH AT THE SAME TIME.' GND SAID TO CALL THE TWR WHEN NEAR A PHONE. THIS SITUATION AROSE BECAUSE THE CTLR TOOK OFFENSE TO A PLT, FLYING AN AIRPLANE, TAKING HIS RIGHT BY REG TO DEVIATE FROM A CTLR'S REQUEST. THE CTLR WAS ALSO SHORT AND SNAPPY TO ANY TALK IN A CALM MANNER. CTLR WAS TRYING, AS HE HAS IN THE PAST, TO FLY THE ACFT FOR THE PLT. THE OTHER COMPANY INSTRS AND 6 STUDENTS CAN AND WILL ATTEST TO THIS SITUATION.
