Narrative:
Landed whiteman airport, pacoima, ca XY30 hours, sep/xx/89. Announced downwind and base legs on unicom. Burbank approach ended advisories, instructed to squawk VFR 10 mi out and did not mention there was now a tower at whiteman. Took off whiteman XX30 hours on sep/Y/89, announcing actions on unicom. Did not know a control tower had been installed at whiteman airport and operates from XA00-XM00 local and therefore departed a controled airport with no contact with or clearance from tower.

Narrative: LANDED WHITEMAN ARPT, PACOIMA, CA XY30 HRS, SEP/XX/89. ANNOUNCED DOWNWIND AND BASE LEGS ON UNICOM. BURBANK APCH ENDED ADVISORIES, INSTRUCTED TO SQUAWK VFR 10 MI OUT AND DID NOT MENTION THERE WAS NOW A TWR AT WHITEMAN. TOOK OFF WHITEMAN XX30 HRS ON SEP/Y/89, ANNOUNCING ACTIONS ON UNICOM. DID NOT KNOW A CTL TWR HAD BEEN INSTALLED AT WHITEMAN ARPT AND OPERATES FROM XA00-XM00 LOCAL AND THEREFORE DEPARTED A CTLED ARPT WITH NO CONTACT WITH OR CLRNC FROM TWR.
