Narrative:
I had a WX brief of 2100 and 3 mi in the lexington area. I then proceeded to KY69. I have a preset in my LORAN to that location or so I thought. I put the #8 button and had a reading of 110 degree and I believe around 50 mi. I knew this was the course to the location. I followed this to within 6 or 7 NM of what I thought was KY69 when the visibility went to about a mi. I knew I would be approaching the multi-lane highway to KY69. I proceeded down this highway to what I thought was going to be the paris pike interchange, the LORAN was giving me indications that I was right on, however, the LORAN had taken me direct to the lexington airport, and the multi-lane road there had convinced me I was on course. As soon as I realized what and where I was, I turned away from the airport and called tower. The tower then advised me of my location,. The tower cleared me east and to contact departure. They gave me vectors to KY69 where I landed and called the tower chief. I had not been talking to tower or on special VFR because I thought I was north and not in the control zone.

Narrative: I HAD A WX BRIEF OF 2100 AND 3 MI IN THE LEXINGTON AREA. I THEN PROCEEDED TO KY69. I HAVE A PRESET IN MY LORAN TO THAT LOCATION OR SO I THOUGHT. I PUT THE #8 BUTTON AND HAD A READING OF 110 DEG AND I BELIEVE AROUND 50 MI. I KNEW THIS WAS THE COURSE TO THE LOCATION. I FOLLOWED THIS TO WITHIN 6 OR 7 NM OF WHAT I THOUGHT WAS KY69 WHEN THE VISIBILITY WENT TO ABOUT A MI. I KNEW I WOULD BE APCHING THE MULTI-LANE HIGHWAY TO KY69. I PROCEEDED DOWN THIS HIGHWAY TO WHAT I THOUGHT WAS GOING TO BE THE PARIS PIKE INTERCHANGE, THE LORAN WAS GIVING ME INDICATIONS THAT I WAS RIGHT ON, HOWEVER, THE LORAN HAD TAKEN ME DIRECT TO THE LEXINGTON ARPT, AND THE MULTI-LANE ROAD THERE HAD CONVINCED ME I WAS ON COURSE. AS SOON AS I REALIZED WHAT AND WHERE I WAS, I TURNED AWAY FROM THE ARPT AND CALLED TWR. THE TWR THEN ADVISED ME OF MY LOCATION,. THE TWR CLRED ME EAST AND TO CONTACT DEP. THEY GAVE ME VECTORS TO KY69 WHERE I LANDED AND CALLED THE TWR CHIEF. I HAD NOT BEEN TALKING TO TWR OR ON SPECIAL VFR BECAUSE I THOUGHT I WAS NORTH AND NOT IN THE CTL ZONE.
