Narrative:
We were being vectored for an ILS to 18R at dfw regional airport. We checked in on frequency 132.1 and acknowledged instructions to turn a base leg, heading 090 degree and 3000'. We heard no other instructions. When we could see we were going to go through the localizer, we made a call to approach control. There was no answer. As we knew if we kept heading east we would come in conflict with a parallel localizer, we called the tower. The tower gave us landing clearance which didn't make sense as we hadn't been given approach clearance and were not in visual contact with the airport. Immediately we tried approach control again, they acknowledged and instructed us to turn to heading 210 degree and descend to 2000'. At the same time we saw an aircraft on approach to the parallel runway, 17L. We followed the instructions and made a normal landing. We called approach control by phone. They said they made several calls while we were on base leg. We never received or acknowledged them.

Title: MLG FLT CREW ON BASE FOR 18R AT DFW LOST CONTACT WITH APCH CTLR, FLEW THROUGH CENTERLINE OF 3 RWYS BEFORE REGAINING CONTACT AND A VECTOR FOR INTERCEPTING A RWY FOR LNDG.
Narrative: WE WERE BEING VECTORED FOR AN ILS TO 18R AT DFW REGIONAL ARPT. WE CHECKED IN ON FREQ 132.1 AND ACKNOWLEDGED INSTRUCTIONS TO TURN A BASE LEG, HDG 090 DEG AND 3000'. WE HEARD NO OTHER INSTRUCTIONS. WHEN WE COULD SEE WE WERE GOING TO GO THROUGH THE LOC, WE MADE A CALL TO APCH CTL. THERE WAS NO ANSWER. AS WE KNEW IF WE KEPT HDG E WE WOULD COME IN CONFLICT WITH A PARALLEL LOC, WE CALLED THE TWR. THE TWR GAVE US LNDG CLRNC WHICH DIDN'T MAKE SENSE AS WE HADN'T BEEN GIVEN APCH CLRNC AND WERE NOT IN VISUAL CONTACT WITH THE ARPT. IMMEDIATELY WE TRIED APCH CTL AGAIN, THEY ACKNOWLEDGED AND INSTRUCTED US TO TURN TO HDG 210 DEG AND DSND TO 2000'. AT THE SAME TIME WE SAW AN ACFT ON APCH TO THE PARALLEL RWY, 17L. WE FOLLOWED THE INSTRUCTIONS AND MADE A NORMAL LNDG. WE CALLED APCH CTL BY PHONE. THEY SAID THEY MADE SEVERAL CALLS WHILE WE WERE ON BASE LEG. WE NEVER RECEIVED OR ACKNOWLEDGED THEM.
