Narrative:

I tuned in cincinnati approach to listen for any other airplanes practicing apches. I heard an small aircraft on the VOR 24 approach at 1-77. I then proceeded to the airport and entered on a 45 degree downwind for runway 24. As I was doing that I also announced on 123.0 that I was entering downwind for 24. After that I heard cincinnati approach tell the small aircraft to switch to the advisory frequency which is 123.0. I waited for the small aircraft to call. The small aircraft announced he was on a 4 mi final for 24 straight in. I called the small aircraft and told him that I was downwind and could he report a 1 mi final. He replied yes. At that point I went through gumps, however, I left the gear up since I would not need to descend yet. After that the small aircraft asked if I was a twin. I replied yes, the small aircraft replied we do not have the airport in sight we are going to do a missed approach. I replied am I in your way. The small aircraft replied no, you can turn in for final approach. I then started my right base, announced I was turning right base and told the small aircraft I had the runway in sight if he wanted to follow me to the runway. He replied 'ok'. At this point I put the approach flaps down to start my descent. After that I turned final approach and announced that I was turning final for 24. I proceeded with the approach, I put my last notch of flaps in and brought the propellers up to high RPM. Next I was about 20' high and did a final check, mixtures, propellers, gear. I looked at the gear light and realized the gear was not down. At that point I applied full power to abandon the approach. As I brought the throttles forward the propellers struck the ground. I decided I was committed to flying the airplane. The 1ST thing I did was look at my airspeed. I had about 90 KTS so I retracted the flaps slowly and proceeded to climb out at 100 KTS. Next I radioed about my problem and asked if everyone would yield to me. The small aircraft and another plane downwind replied ok. Next I decided I better get the airplane on the ground. When I got to about 700' AGL I started a left 360 to land on runway 6 because the winds were calm. I lined up with the runway, put the gear down and the flaps down and landed safely. No one was injured and I taxied to the hangar.

Title: SMT SUFFERED PROPELLER STRIKE WHILE ATTEMPTING GO AROUND AFTER MAKING APCH WITH LNDG GEAR RETRACTED.

Narrative: I TUNED IN CINCINNATI APCH TO LISTEN FOR ANY OTHER AIRPLANES PRACTICING APCHES. I HEARD AN SMA ON THE VOR 24 APCH AT 1-77. I THEN PROCEEDED TO THE ARPT AND ENTERED ON A 45 DEG DOWNWIND FOR RWY 24. AS I WAS DOING THAT I ALSO ANNOUNCED ON 123.0 THAT I WAS ENTERING DOWNWIND FOR 24. AFTER THAT I HEARD CINCINNATI APCH TELL THE SMA TO SWITCH TO THE ADVISORY FREQ WHICH IS 123.0. I WAITED FOR THE SMA TO CALL. THE SMA ANNOUNCED HE WAS ON A 4 MI FINAL FOR 24 STRAIGHT IN. I CALLED THE SMA AND TOLD HIM THAT I WAS DOWNWIND AND COULD HE REPORT A 1 MI FINAL. HE REPLIED YES. AT THAT POINT I WENT THROUGH GUMPS, HOWEVER, I LEFT THE GEAR UP SINCE I WOULD NOT NEED TO DSND YET. AFTER THAT THE SMA ASKED IF I WAS A TWIN. I REPLIED YES, THE SMA REPLIED WE DO NOT HAVE THE ARPT IN SIGHT WE ARE GOING TO DO A MISSED APCH. I REPLIED AM I IN YOUR WAY. THE SMA REPLIED NO, YOU CAN TURN IN FOR FINAL APCH. I THEN STARTED MY RIGHT BASE, ANNOUNCED I WAS TURNING RIGHT BASE AND TOLD THE SMA I HAD THE RWY IN SIGHT IF HE WANTED TO FOLLOW ME TO THE RWY. HE REPLIED 'OK'. AT THIS POINT I PUT THE APCH FLAPS DOWN TO START MY DSCNT. AFTER THAT I TURNED FINAL APCH AND ANNOUNCED THAT I WAS TURNING FINAL FOR 24. I PROCEEDED WITH THE APCH, I PUT MY LAST NOTCH OF FLAPS IN AND BROUGHT THE PROPS UP TO HIGH RPM. NEXT I WAS ABOUT 20' HIGH AND DID A FINAL CHECK, MIXTURES, PROPS, GEAR. I LOOKED AT THE GEAR LIGHT AND REALIZED THE GEAR WAS NOT DOWN. AT THAT POINT I APPLIED FULL POWER TO ABANDON THE APCH. AS I BROUGHT THE THROTTLES FORWARD THE PROPELLERS STRUCK THE GND. THE SMA AND ANOTHER PLANE DOWNWIND REPLIED OK. NEXT I DECIDED I BETTER GET THE AIRPLANE ON THE GND. WHEN I GOT TO ABOUT 700' AGL I STARTED A LEFT 360 TO LAND ON RWY 6 BECAUSE THE WINDS WERE CALM. I LINED UP WITH THE RWY, PUT THE GEAR DOWN AND THE FLAPS DOWN AND LANDED SAFELY. NO ONE WAS INJURED AND I TAXIED TO THE HANGAR.
