Narrative:
As a new captain on a new aircraft (medium large transport) with glass cockpit and FMS, I allowed my highly experienced first officer to fly the civet profile descent into lax to watch how he used the FMS for descent. Unfortunately, the did not use the system correctly and crossed civet.

Narrative: AS A NEW CAPT ON A NEW ACFT (MLG) WITH GLASS COCKPIT AND FMS, I ALLOWED MY HIGHLY EXPERIENCED F/O TO FLY THE CIVET PROFILE DESCENT INTO LAX TO WATCH HOW HE USED THE FMS FOR DESCENT. UNFORTUNATELY, THE DID NOT USE THE SYSTEM CORRECTLY AND CROSSED CIVET.
