Narrative:
I departed rdu and was given a heading which I turned to using a sandel HSI. The HSI was indicating incorrectly causing me to deviate substantially from the assigned heading. My maintenance facility told me that the problem was probably caused by an electrical disruption. Pilots operating with a sandel HSI should be made aware of this potential problem.
Original NASA ASRS Text
