Narrative:
Approaching den, we were instructed to turn to a heading of 300 degree after crossing kiowa due to den VOR being out of service. We were later cleared to cross kiowa at 17,000 and descend and maintain 10,000'. At approximately 8-10 mi from den, while at 10,200 and descending, the controller said 'maintain 11,000'.' we responded that we were leveling at 10,000' but would climb to 11,000. Controller responded 'maintain 11,000, traffic at 12 O'clock, 3 mi, level at 10,000.' we confirmed we had traffic in sight. No conflict arose.
