Narrative:
Day tower cleared my flight into position and said there was traffic on a 2 1/2 mi final. I believed he was planning an immediate takeoff so I proceeded onto the runway. At this time he told the traffic on final to break off and land on runway 18. He had to say this several times before the pilot responded, the last time with some excitement in his voice. I do not know if this was an error, or misjudgment, or was planned that way.
