Narrative:
Training flight en route to santa paula, ca. The flight plan was thru the corridor over lax both coming and going. I noted that the transponder and mode C were not functioning at return to long beach. Upon departure and over long beach area, transponder light was functioning and the self test seemed to be working (from cockpit indication only), however, there was an electrical failure of some kind in flight. The only indication of failure was that the transponder wasn't functioning near flight completion. I probably went thru the lax corridor without a functioning transponder.

Title: PLT OF SMA FLEW THROUGH LAX CORRIDOR VFR, THROUGH THE TCA, WITHOUT AN OPERATIVE TRANSPONDER.
Narrative: TRAINING FLT ENRTE TO SANTA PAULA, CA. THE FLT PLAN WAS THRU THE CORRIDOR OVER LAX BOTH COMING AND GOING. I NOTED THAT THE XPONDER AND MODE C WERE NOT FUNCTIONING AT RETURN TO LONG BEACH. UPON DEP AND OVER LONG BEACH AREA, XPONDER LIGHT WAS FUNCTIONING AND THE SELF TEST SEEMED TO BE WORKING (FROM COCKPIT INDICATION ONLY), HOWEVER, THERE WAS AN ELECTRICAL FAILURE OF SOME KIND IN FLT. THE ONLY INDICATION OF FAILURE WAS THAT THE XPONDER WASN'T FUNCTIONING NEAR FLT COMPLETION. I PROBABLY WENT THRU THE LAX CORRIDOR WITHOUT A FUNCTIONING XPONDER.
