Narrative:

Our phone system between bowman and standiford fields faulty to the point that we are afraid that it is only a matter of time until there is an accident as a result of this. We are only separated by a little more than 2 3/4 mi. This calls for constant coordination between lou tower and sdy TRACON. The system is leased from at&T and every time they are called to come and repair it they say they don't know why it stopped working or why it started working again on its own. The system is well over 20 yrs old and at&T has told us parts do not exist anymore and that it cannot be fixed. Callback conversation with reporter revealed the following: reporter experience: 3 months fpl non radar. Reporter stated this problem started to happen when sdf TRACON had new equipment/interphone system installed. Interphone system at lou would fail 2 or 3 times a month. Ucr has been filed in nov/89. Southern region is not responding to the problem. Equipment worked on 3 weeks ago by at&T and equipment has worked properly.

Title: UNRELIABLE INTERPHONE SYSTEM BETWEEN LOU ATCT AND SDF APCH CTL.

Narrative: OUR PHONE SYSTEM BETWEEN BOWMAN AND STANDIFORD FIELDS FAULTY TO THE POINT THAT WE ARE AFRAID THAT IT IS ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL THERE IS AN ACCIDENT AS A RESULT OF THIS. WE ARE ONLY SEPARATED BY A LITTLE MORE THAN 2 3/4 MI. THIS CALLS FOR CONSTANT COORD BETWEEN LOU TWR AND SDY TRACON. THE SYSTEM IS LEASED FROM AT&T AND EVERY TIME THEY ARE CALLED TO COME AND REPAIR IT THEY SAY THEY DON'T KNOW WHY IT STOPPED WORKING OR WHY IT STARTED WORKING AGAIN ON ITS OWN. THE SYSTEM IS WELL OVER 20 YRS OLD AND AT&T HAS TOLD US PARTS DO NOT EXIST ANYMORE AND THAT IT CANNOT BE FIXED. CALLBACK CONVERSATION WITH REPORTER REVEALED THE FOLLOWING: REPORTER EXPERIENCE: 3 MONTHS FPL NON RADAR.
