Narrative:
Encountered wake turbulence climbing through FL210. The aircraft rolled approximately 40 degrees. The air traffic controller said we were following an airbus 380 (super). The A380 was 20 to 25 miles in front of us and approximately 4000 feet higher. Wake turbulence from the A380 was unexpected because of its distance from our aircraft. The air traffic controller sounded surprised that we were encountering wake turbulence.
