Narrative:
I was cleared into the TCA for runway 5L, but the runways were being changed and I was offered runway 36. I accepted, was cleared to land and told to hold short of runway 23L, and that I would be using taxiway romeo to my parking place. After landing on runway 36, I found the newly improved intersection of runways 36, 23L, txwys romeo and lima confusing and stopped the plane immediately. It was then apparent, both visually and audibly, that a commercial airliner had departed on runway 23L, was airborne with wheels retracted. No evasive action was required. The pilot radioed to the tower that he had me in sight. I was unaware that I had encroached on a portion of the active runway 23L until advised by the tower, who then cleared me to cross runways 23L and 23R and to proceed to taxiway romeo. I was advised to call the tower after I parked the plane. In retrospect, the intersection should be better idented. Also, as PIC, I could have stopped shorter and asked for a progressive taxi when I found the intersection unclr.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: CLOSE PROX GA-SMA ACR-MLG. GA LANDED ON INTERSECTING RWY, BUT FAILED TO HOLD SHORT AS CLEARED. ACR HAD GA IN SIGHT AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE TKOF.
Narrative: I WAS CLRED INTO THE TCA FOR RWY 5L, BUT THE RWYS WERE BEING CHANGED AND I WAS OFFERED RWY 36. I ACCEPTED, WAS CLRED TO LAND AND TOLD TO HOLD SHORT OF RWY 23L, AND THAT I WOULD BE USING TXWY ROMEO TO MY PARKING PLACE. AFTER LNDG ON RWY 36, I FOUND THE NEWLY IMPROVED INTXN OF RWYS 36, 23L, TXWYS ROMEO AND LIMA CONFUSING AND STOPPED THE PLANE IMMEDIATELY. IT WAS THEN APPARENT, BOTH VISUALLY AND AUDIBLY, THAT A COMMERCIAL AIRLINER HAD DEPARTED ON RWY 23L, WAS AIRBORNE WITH WHEELS RETRACTED. NO EVASIVE ACTION WAS REQUIRED. THE PLT RADIOED TO THE TWR THAT HE HAD ME IN SIGHT. I WAS UNAWARE THAT I HAD ENCROACHED ON A PORTION OF THE ACTIVE RWY 23L UNTIL ADVISED BY THE TWR, WHO THEN CLRED ME TO CROSS RWYS 23L AND 23R AND TO PROCEED TO TXWY ROMEO. I WAS ADVISED TO CALL THE TWR AFTER I PARKED THE PLANE. IN RETROSPECT, THE INTXN SHOULD BE BETTER IDENTED. ALSO, AS PIC, I COULD HAVE STOPPED SHORTER AND ASKED FOR A PROGRESSIVE TAXI WHEN I FOUND THE INTXN UNCLR.
