Narrative:
Navigating outbnd on J191 from hpw to pxt. Needle centered on hpw 036 degree radial. At 30 mi switched to pxt 221 right and noted severe deflection to right. Rechecked on first officer VOR and turned to heading of 065 degree to intercept airway. Advised F/a's to check cabin for any electrical appliances and was told a gentleman in row 17 was using a dictaphone. He was told to discontinue, and did so. Remainder of flight to ewr was uneventful.

Title: FLT CREW NOTED ERRONEOUS NAVIGATION SIGNAL ON VOR STATION. PASSENGER IN CABIN USING DICTAPHONE. PASSENGER STOPPED USING DICTAPHONE. NAVIGATION SIGNALS RETURNED TO NORMAL.
Narrative: NAVIGATING OUTBND ON J191 FROM HPW TO PXT. NEEDLE CENTERED ON HPW 036 DEG RADIAL. AT 30 MI SWITCHED TO PXT 221 R AND NOTED SEVERE DEFLECTION TO RIGHT.
