Narrative:

Engine failure at 600 feet on final; in the moment I had a conflict between running an engine failure checklist or choosing a suitable place to land; I started throttle forward-mixture forward carb heat; but due to altitude and the location of the fuel selector; all my attention was on a safe landing. The outcome was no bodily injury and no property damage. I am not completely certain what caused the engine failure; however I believe running a pre landing check list a bit earlier in the landing phase is always a good idea.
