Narrative:
In flying to sna from bjc VFR I inadvertently crossed the grand canyon below 14,500. I relied upon information from flying newsletter such as AOPA and flying magazine which I remembered as stating that the altitude restrictions were 2000' AGL. The new WAC chart has nothing about the restriction. On the return trip from sna to bjc I filed IFR and cancelled at goffs VOR and took a direct course which led back over the grand canyon. I remained on flight following and when I approached the grand canyon the controller asked me if I was aware of the 14,500 restriction. I replied that I wasn't and she replied that it was on my low altitude en route chart. I proceeded to climb from 13,000 to 15,000. I was at that time VFR and using the WAC chart again which did not show any restriction. To prevent a recurrence of this problem I think that a definite outline of airspace be delineated and clearly shown on WAC charts with the restriction.

Title: PLT OF PRIVATE SMT INADVERTENTLY FLEW THROUGH RESTRICTED AREA OVER GRAND CANYON.
Narrative: IN FLYING TO SNA FROM BJC VFR I INADVERTENTLY CROSSED THE GRAND CANYON BELOW 14,500. I RELIED UPON INFO FROM FLYING NEWSLETTER SUCH AS AOPA AND FLYING MAGAZINE WHICH I REMEMBERED AS STATING THAT THE ALT RESTRICTIONS WERE 2000' AGL. THE NEW WAC CHART HAS NOTHING ABOUT THE RESTRICTION. ON THE RETURN TRIP FROM SNA TO BJC I FILED IFR AND CANCELLED AT GOFFS VOR AND TOOK A DIRECT COURSE WHICH LED BACK OVER THE GRAND CANYON. I REMAINED ON FLT FOLLOWING AND WHEN I APCHED THE GRAND CANYON THE CTLR ASKED ME IF I WAS AWARE OF THE 14,500 RESTRICTION. I REPLIED THAT I WASN'T AND SHE REPLIED THAT IT WAS ON MY LOW ALT ENRTE CHART.
