Narrative:
Engine over speed. RPM jumped to between 3;200-3;300 RPM. Reduced throttle to keep RPM within limits and speed decayed 35-40 knots. Requested vectors to nearest field. Diverted to the airport and landed safely. Suspect propellor governor failure. Aircraft awaiting maintenance evaluation.
Original NASA ASRS Text
Title: C182 pilot at 5;500 feet experiences a propeller governor failure and engine overspeed. The throttle is reduced to maintain RPM limits and the flight diverts to a suitable airport; as insufficient power is available.
