Narrative:

Ft worth center cleared flight 'pilot direction to 5000' cleared to 10 DME fix off tyler 211 radial, expect no delay.' as flight approached 5000' ft worth center said 'cross 10 DME fix at and maintain 4000''. Read back, and at 10 DME, tried to break into busy center frequency to ask for handoff to tyler approach. By the time ft worth answered with 'thank you, contact tyler approach', I was 2.9 DME and turned outbnd to 5 DME fix for procedure turn inbound for approach. Center gave crossing restriction but gave no approach clearance or handoff. Shouldn't have proceeded regardless of misunderstanding between approach clearance and crossing restriction. Tyler approach did an excellent job in handling the somewhat confusing but safe adventure.

Title: PIC OF LTT PROCEEDS PAST CLRNC POINT IN ANTICIPATION OF HANDOFF TO APCH CTL. DEVIATION OCCURS WHEN HANDOFF IS DELAYED.

Narrative: FT WORTH CENTER CLRED FLT 'PLT DIRECTION TO 5000' CLRED TO 10 DME FIX OFF TYLER 211 RADIAL, EXPECT NO DELAY.' AS FLT APCHED 5000' FT WORTH CENTER SAID 'CROSS 10 DME FIX AT AND MAINTAIN 4000''. READ BACK, AND AT 10 DME, TRIED TO BREAK INTO BUSY CENTER FREQ TO ASK FOR HANDOFF TO TYLER APCH. BY THE TIME FT WORTH ANSWERED WITH 'THANK YOU, CONTACT TYLER APCH', I WAS 2.9 DME AND TURNED OUTBND TO 5 DME FIX FOR PROC TURN INBND FOR APCH. CENTER GAVE XING RESTRICTION BUT GAVE NO APCH CLRNC OR HANDOFF. SHOULDN'T HAVE PROCEEDED REGARDLESS OF MISUNDERSTANDING BETWEEN APCH CLRNC AND XING RESTRICTION. TYLER APCH DID AN EXCELLENT JOB IN HANDLING THE SOMEWHAT CONFUSING BUT SAFE ADVENTURE.
