Narrative:
In mci the aircraft was a little late getting in and we were a little rushed. The preflight was performed and the cockpit was set up as norm, except the altitude was missed. The other crew had left 7000 in the box and we were to depart at 6000. We taxied out and took the runway. It was my leg. The takeoff was performed. Tower told us to talk to departure. The captain told him were out of 2500 for 7000, then the controller said 'radar contact, turn right heading 230, traffic 10 O'clock higher when by him.' then the captain said 'what altitude is that traffic?' nobody answered. We were at about 4500', then he said again 'what altitude is that traffic?' the controller finally said '7000''. At this time we were at about 6500 to 6600. The captain then pushed the nose over. The controller then said 'clear to 15,000'.' the captain said to the controller 'that sure looked close.' the controller said 'I show you now at 6500', you're cleared to 15,000'' and that's all that was said. Supplemental information from acn 132991: I looked down at the performance card where the first officer had written the clearance. The clearance limit on the card was 6000'. Somehow, we had 7000 in the altitude selector.

Title: ACR MLG ALT DEVIATION OVERSHOT DURING CLIMB RESULTING IN CLOSE PROX LESS THAN STANDARD SEPARATION WITH INBOUND TRAFFIC.
Narrative: IN MCI THE ACFT WAS A LITTLE LATE GETTING IN AND WE WERE A LITTLE RUSHED. THE PREFLT WAS PERFORMED AND THE COCKPIT WAS SET UP AS NORM, EXCEPT THE ALT WAS MISSED. THE OTHER CREW HAD LEFT 7000 IN THE BOX AND WE WERE TO DEPART AT 6000. WE TAXIED OUT AND TOOK THE RWY. IT WAS MY LEG. THE TKOF WAS PERFORMED. TWR TOLD US TO TALK TO DEP. THE CAPT TOLD HIM WERE OUT OF 2500 FOR 7000, THEN THE CTLR SAID 'RADAR CONTACT, TURN RIGHT HDG 230, TFC 10 O'CLOCK HIGHER WHEN BY HIM.' THEN THE CAPT SAID 'WHAT ALT IS THAT TFC?' NOBODY ANSWERED. WE WERE AT ABOUT 4500', THEN HE SAID AGAIN 'WHAT ALT IS THAT TFC?' THE CTLR FINALLY SAID '7000''. AT THIS TIME WE WERE AT ABOUT 6500 TO 6600. THE CAPT THEN PUSHED THE NOSE OVER. SUPPLEMENTAL INFORMATION FROM ACN 132991: I LOOKED DOWN AT THE PERFORMANCE CARD WHERE THE F/O HAD WRITTEN THE CLRNC. THE CLRNC LIMIT ON THE CARD WAS 6000'. SOMEHOW, WE HAD 7000 IN THE ALT SELECTOR.
