Narrative:

After arriving at aus, we completed our shut down and walked inside to the lounge. At that time an aviation safety inspector approached us and informed us that he was doing a ramp check and requested to see aircraft papers and individual certificates. At this time I informed that my wallet had been misplaced the previous day and I was unaware of its location. The inspector informed me that I was in violation. He asked me why I did not go to a safety office located in houston or aus to get an emergency certificate so I could return to my home base. I was unaware that you have that option available to you. The inspector indicated to me that it was an option everyone had available.
