Acknowledgement by approach and told to slow to 250 KTS, descend to 8000' and left turn to 150 degrees for localizer 30 approach at mia. We complied. At 9000' and heading 150 degrees, approach said to get back to 10000' and reintercept the arwy, that we had followed flight xyz's instructions. We confirmed our instructions and went back to 10000' and back on the arwy. Controller stated, 'must be similar call signs.' again, when we checked in, he acknowledged XXX and continued in same breath to issue instructions. How could one have followed xyz instructions when he acknowledged XXX with instructions to follow?
