Narrative:
I am a new hire first officer and have approximately 7 hours in type. The captain and I dead-headed from atl to dfw to fsm. We drove a rental car from fsm down to M39. When we got to M39, we had been on duty for 12 hours. We departed M39 VFR and the captain filed IFR once airborne. I was flying. When we neared the rome STAR into atl, the captain was told that either approach or center had been trying to get us on the radio for the past 12-15 mins. We were both monitoring the radios and had heard all previous xmissions from ATC up to that point. (We were ferry trip.) we could not initially understand how we could hav missed ATC's recent calls. On descent into atl the captain found out that ATC had indeed been calling us, but was using another call sign for some reason. As a result, the captain nor myself paid much attention to the controller's mistaken call sign. Nothing else was said about it.
