Narrative:

Tower asked an small aircraft if he had us in sight, as we were on takeoff runway. Small aircraft advised he did. Tower told him to pass behind us. I advised I did not have him in sight. Climbing through 1200' the small aircraft came into view on my left side. I told mia departure to tell fll tower. I switched to #3 radio. Fll tower was asking small aircraft if he understood the instructions and his comment was something inane. 'Poor judgement' on his part is what the tower said, when I asked what happened! If our aircraft had weighted more than the takeoff weight of 134000# it could very easily have been a disaster. The first officer was flying and had rotated to 20 degrees nose-up, maximum deck angle for the small aircraft on takeoff and climb. As a habit I DOD not rotate above 15 degrees. If it had been my takeoff, we would have collided, I feel.

Title: ACR CREW HEARD SMA ACCEPT CLRNC TO PASS BEHIND THEM. ON INITIAL CLIMB SMA APPEARS ON LEFT SIDE OF ACR.

Narrative: TWR ASKED AN SMA IF HE HAD US IN SIGHT, AS WE WERE ON TKOF RWY. SMA ADVISED HE DID. TWR TOLD HIM TO PASS BEHIND US. I ADVISED I DID NOT HAVE HIM IN SIGHT. CLBING THROUGH 1200' THE SMA CAME INTO VIEW ON MY LEFT SIDE. I TOLD MIA DEP TO TELL FLL TWR. I SWITCHED TO #3 RADIO. FLL TWR WAS ASKING SMA IF HE UNDERSTOOD THE INSTRUCTIONS AND HIS COMMENT WAS SOMETHING INANE. 'POOR JUDGEMENT' ON HIS PART IS WHAT THE TWR SAID, WHEN I ASKED WHAT HAPPENED! IF OUR ACFT HAD WEIGHTED MORE THAN THE TKOF WT OF 134000# IT COULD VERY EASILY HAVE BEEN A DISASTER. THE F/O WAS FLYING AND HAD ROTATED TO 20 DEGS NOSE-UP, MAX DECK ANGLE FOR THE SMA ON TKOF AND CLB. AS A HABIT I DOD NOT ROTATE ABOVE 15 DEGS. IF IT HAD BEEN MY TKOF, WE WOULD HAVE COLLIDED, I FEEL.
